Choosing self catering accommodation when traveling with children has some important things to consider. Chandlers in Settle, Yorkshire Dales is a quaint little Cottage with a lot to offer. Although small it doesn’t at all feel cramped and easily housed four adults, toddler and baby with room to spare. The first plus was how light and airy the Cottage was with lovely contemporary furnishings
Downstairs there is one lounge and the kitchen which might seem limited for a family however the downstairs is quite spacious. The double doors between the kitchen and lounge can be opened allowing free flow between the two rooms. This works really well allowing children to play whilst still keeping an eye on them from the kitchen.
The kitchen itself is beautiful and has everything that you might need during your stay including high chair. There is plenty of cupboard space and a really large fridge/freezer. A full weekly shop was easily stored without feeling cramped which can be an issue in some self catering accommodation.
The kitchen leads onto a very small terrace, enclosed by a wall. This is a nice place to sit however not really large enough for children to run about. There is a small park a few metres from the house that can be easily accessed and a lovely place to play.
The upstairs continues the cottage charm. The recessed wardrobe in the main bedroom became a brilliant little den, filled with cushions and toys. The window seat looking out onto the Yorkshire Dales was also a hit and a good place to sit and play.
The en suite and main bathroom were quite snug however manageable with small children if they were dried and dressed in the bedroom.
The attic room is small, with very little head room. Children adored this little room however a little cramped for any adults needing to pop up there. This would be more suitable for older children who were a bit more independent.
The only slight issue was a lack of downstairs toilet and storing a pushchair. There is space after entering in through the front door however this is carpeted (cream) so standing a pushchair there wouldn’t seem ideal. The only other option would be to keep putting a pushchair back in the car or take it round the back and carry it up a few steps and put it onto the tiled floor in the kitchen or leave it on the terrace. Removable stair gates available to access and put up would have been useful for guests with younger children. Although not needed during our stay, a fireguard would also be a useful safety feature for families staying with younger children. Parking is on street outside the property. With no dedicated parking space it was a case of just needing to find somewhere however this was never an issue.
Settle itself was a lovely place to stay with a good range of shops and accessible to various tourist attractions. Overall Chandlers was good accommodation that worked with two small children.
