Days Out

Cannon Hall Farm

There are so many farms offering family days out however Cannon Hall Farm really is something special. Firstly the way the barns are laid out makes life so easy with children. There are no stairs to negotiate despite the barns being on a hill which means accessibility for all. The animals are viewed from balconies above the barn so everyone regardless of height can easily see what’s happening and children will enjoy sending animal feed down tubes into the troughs bellow.

Around 900 lambs are born at the farm during lambing season and 2-3 litters of piglets are born every week so there are always plenty of little animals to see and perhaps a live birth taking place during your visit. There are also cow and goat milking demonstrations and the small animal petting area. The sheep and ferret racing are always great fun to watch too.

Cannon Hall Farm has some amazing play areas. Outdoors there is a huge adventure playground complete with tube maze. Indoors the Hungry Llama play area is one of the biggest in the north of England. With nine slides and so many different features the kids could easily spend several hours in the different play areas alone and might struggle to squeeze in the tractor and trailer ride.

It’s the little touches that really make a huge difference when out with the family. Most visitor attractions have a picnic area for families to enjoy their own food outside, this is fine in the summer however a bit nippy in the winter. Cannon Hall Farm has helpfully provided an indoor picnic area so you can enjoy your own picnic and shelter from the elements all year round. The indoor pram park is also great, somewhere to leave the pushchair that is safe, clean and dry whilst using the indoor play area. Toilets are very important on a day trip especially with little ones in tow however aren’t always in the best state. We’ve all needed to wipe down grimy changing mats or left gasping at the awful pong from the nappy bin at some point. Cannon Hall Farm is just, well, lovely (If you can describe going to the loo or changing the poo as lovely). The loos are beautifully clean, light and spacious. They provide disposable changing mat covers and even request that you use the scented bags that they provide (free of charge!) to dispose of nappies and keep the room smelling nice and fresh, and it works!

If you fancy a bite to eat you won’t be disappointed. The food at the White Bull is exceptional, such a great variety and really well done. It gets busy but that’s just testament to how good the restaurant is.

The price is good too.  At its peak price a family of four would cost £30* which for a full day out is quite good in comparison to some other attractions. There are also discounts at various points and cheaper admission after 3:30pm on non event days.

It is clear why Cannon Hall Farm has won so many awards, it’s a brilliant family day out with something to offer for all ages.
